PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
